Tau Game Lodge has recently revamped and simultaneously enlarged some of the standard chalets, now also offering some spacious Family suites with comfortable seating areas. The sliding doors allow spectacular views of the breathtaking beautiful tranquillity of the rugged surroundings of the diverse bushveld.

Further to its wedding, conference and leisure facilities, the Tau Spa Oasis was chosen as a finalist in the Les Nouvelles 2009 awards in the Safari Spa Category, to add to the lodge’s many 5-star draw cards in Madikwe.  Combine this with the friendly hospitality and amazing wildlife in the perfect location and you have the ideal safari destination!

Tau’s accommodation consists of 30 luxury thatched chalets. The main body of the Lodge is two-levelled and has a curio shop, an impressive reception hall, a comfortable upstairs lounge, as well as a semi open-air bar and dining room, all decorated with African artefacts and overlooking the waterhole.  Guests wishing to spend a quiet afternoon on the main lodge deck or on their private balcony, have the opportunity of spotting a wide variety of animals; from large game to birds and water monitors.  The uniquely designed rooms all face part of the water hole.

At the Spa, Guests are offered deep relaxation and rejuvenating Spa treatments, surrounded by the beauty of the African bush.  On entering the “Spa Oasis” you are transported into another world – a calm sanctuary that reflects the soul of Africa with its natural surroundings enhancing your experience. Indulge your senses in a unique fusion of different therapies designed to replenish and soothe body, mind and soul.  A range of massages is available to reduce tension and relieve the cumulative effects of everyday stress.  This serene environment is aimed at assisting you to unwind in the natural and tranquil surroundings.

Madikwe has the distinction of being one of the few game reserves in the world to be proclaimed purely on the grounds of being the most appropriate and sustainable land use for an area.
It further represents an extension to this philosophy in that it is run as a joint venture between the state, the private sector and local communities. The aim being, to wherever possible, involve the local community in wealth creation through tourism, skills and training and to involve the local communities directly in the benefits of wildlife tourism and the protection of the natural environment.

Guests visiting the lodge are offered the opportunity to visit the Supingstad schools, the local leather factory, some traditional historical sites or they can contribute to the soup kitchen which Tau arranges at the schools.  The Tau rangers successfully embarked on the Tau Tree conservation project and are not only educating Tau guests on medicinal purposes, natural habitat, ecology etc. but they are actively involving their guests in conservation of the indigenous trees as guests can sponsor and plant their own tree with the guidance of their Ranger and participating guests are thereby recorded as part of Tau’s history and development.
