President Clinton Meets
with Ambassador Webb
During the National
Black Caucus of State Legislative 31st
Annual Conference held on Dec. 12-16 at the Peabody
Hotel in Little Rock, Arkansas; President Bill
Clinton and his old friend Ambassador Oscar J.
Webb had an opportunity to discuss two of the
world’s crucial issues: Energy and the Environment.
President Clinton has taken the lead through his
Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI), and during his speech
to the Black Caucus of State Legislators he challenged
each Legislator to get involved and bring Environmental
justice to their communities. President Clinton
gave examples on energy where he’s helped in the effort
to reduce carbon emissions, from his energy –efficient
library to the Clinton Foundation’s effort to retrofit
school buildings. The schools renovate the buildings
with bank loans that they pay back with the savings of
utility bills. On the environment, Ambassador Webb
explained that a 2002 study showed 71 percent of
African Americans live in counties that violated federal
air pollution standards and that more then 3.5 million
African Americans have Asthma. Dan Longworth Founder of
EVCS Technologies and the late Dan Stinger of
Wow Energies have joined in partnership to help
elevate this environmental crisis.
President/Representative Calvin Smyre (GA) and Committee
Chair/ Rep. Bill Crawford (IN) of NBCSL passed
resolution ETE-08-05 “Urging Environmental Justice in
Our Communities”. President Clinton and
Ambassador Webb agreed to work together to bring
real change to the global society. Ambassador Webb
and Mr. Dan Longworth will meet later this month with
congressman Albert R. Wynn (MD), chairman of the house
Sub-committee on the environment and hazardous
materials.
